Shri Sheetla Mata Worship Method

• First of all get clean in the morning by taking bath etc.
• One should always take bath with cold water for worshiping Sheetla Mata.
• The stove is not lit in the house on the day of worship of Sheetala Saptami. Therefore, arrange food for Prasad etc. a day in advance.
• Listen to the story of Goddess Sheetla Mata Vrat.
• Worship with incense, lamp and coconut in the temple of Sheetla Mata.
• After that sing Sheetla Mata Aarti and take blessings.

How was Sheetla Mata born?

According to mythological belief, Mata Sheetla ji was originated from Lord Brahma ji. Brahma ji had sent Mother Goddess Sheetla to Prithvi Lok for public welfare. Before coming from Devlok to Prithviloka, Sheetla Mata asked Jvarasura, who appeared from Shiva’s sweat, to come with her and also brought him to Prithviloka. Devi ji had also brought some pulses with her.

Why do we worship Sheetla Mata?

At that time, a king Virat refused to give place to Mother Sheetla to live in his kingdom, due to which Goddess Sheetla became very angry. Due to the flame of Sheetla Mata’s anger, red-reddish grains appeared on the body of all the subjects of that state and all the living beings were stricken by the scorching heat.

When the king realized his guilt, he apologized to Sheetla Mata and made her take a proper place and all the subjects anointed her with cold milk and raw lassi to quench the anger of the goddess. After that the anger of the mother subsided and she cured the diseases of all the subjects. Since then, devotees started fasting and worshiping Goddess Sheetla every year.
