Overview of Prithviraj Raso
Prithviraj Raso is an epic poem written in the Braj Bhasha language by the Indian poet Chand Bardai. The poem tells the story of the life and heroism of the legendary Indian king Prithviraj Chauhan, who ruled the kingdom of Ajmer and Delhi in the 12th century. The poem is considered one of the earliest and most significant literary works in the Hindi language and is an important part of the medieval literature of North India.
It is believed that the poem was composed in the 14th century, almost 200 years after Prithviraj Chauhan’s death, and its authorship is often attributed to Chand Bardai, who was a court poet in the court of Prithviraj Chauhan’s grandson. The poem consists of 17,000 verses and is divided into three parts, each named after a different color- white, yellow, and red. The poem is not only known for its historical and cultural significance but also for its poetic beauty and style.
